I may not come home:-)

Rio Caliente Day one

It was apparent this was the perfect time for this excursion when as my younger brother drops me off at the airport and tells me to try and disconnect and relax as much as possible k? Ouch! Can he see I'm doing 2000 plus things and trying to start a 2nd businesses on top of that....I am going to a health ranch/spa that is literally in the middle of no where on a working interview - dream job? blessing? yes. I was told by a mentor that helped me get the interview it's as much of a challenge as it is a blessing - I will encounter some very very sick people.

Austin to Houston to Guadalajara – perfect smooth sailing – I said a little prayer that at customs in Mexico I would not be randomly searched and my acupuncture needles were not taken away – and whoo hooo the Lord granted my prayers. I make it through customs with even as much as a second look. And I was stacked with supplements and needles that I knowingly took the risk of loosing. I approach a crowd of people, one man holding up a sign with my name on it – perfect!

We start the ride in his van from Guadalajara to the ranch. Towards the end we start climbing mountains and stop seeing civilization. Yep, exactly what I’m in need of…..but I had no idea how remote this health ranch/spa place is…yet…
Just when we've gone further into the mountains than seems normal- We pull in to the gates with bright colors, animal drawings on it to a huge open ranch of flowers, trees, green mountains, and water. Pretty amazing and hard to soak it all in. I’m told this is built on an Huicholes Indian healing ground by the driver. I’m also told lunch is being held for me.

After the organic vegetarian meal- which all the vegetables are grown on the grounds in a magnificent garden - the owner, Miss Caroline shows me around the grounds. The pools are fed with the water from the hot river, there is a steam room hidden down a stair way and of course the health and detox spa. She shows me my “casita”. Amazingly primitive, no heat, no television, no radio, no telephone, no computer, what the hell am I going to do in here? I thought. Then it hit – disconnect –

Day 2

The place is nothing short of enchanting, words can’t describe it….it is amazing. Its far from a resort. Its more of a ranch. There are horses, cows, dogs, cats and who knows what else roaming all over the resort. Yesterday I did pilates and water aerobics. Fun. There's no heat in the rooms I made a fire for warmth. The days are about 85 and the nights about 50. Perfect. My "casita" backs up to the hot river and I could hear it running all night - very romantic This morning I walked to a very neat little bridge that's real rickety that goes over the hot river and watched the steam come up from the water. The river is 160 degrees at some points--->don't want to fall in! So cool.

After breakfast I'm going on a guided hike, apparently this place is built on a native healing ground. There is a hospital type structure in the side of a stone mountain we're going to go see.....I'll take pics....then this afternoon I start seeing patients and this eveningI lecture. I was told 3 of the 7 nights I'm here I'm the evening entertainment - Ha.! poor souls.

Day 3
I have gone horse back riding and hiking everyday. We hiked to a waterfall that was sooo cool yesterday. We rode up to the top of a mountain next to the volcano in the city of Tequila - yes where 90% of the liquor is made very cool. Ready for this? hope you're sitting down - I think I may want a pony now !

day 4 and I'm totally relaxed, this place is amazing. I did Yoga, and pilates today. I have a massage tonight and a mud wrap tomorrow....Yesterday I did sunbathed nude for an hour or so- totally liberating. Word has spread with the guests and my books are full. I am doing reiki, chiropractic, acupuncture and energy clearings on the guests....I've already made a bit of money! On one of the hikes a lady slipped and I did reiki on her forehead out in the woods....very cool to be out in nature healing. Cara Marie - you'dbe sooo proud !!! It felt very natural out in the woods.

This trip made me want to travel even more, I'm meeting people form all over the world and a lot of people from the NY, NJ areas - their travel stories are amazing......Most of the guests are corporate woman stressed out beyond belief needing a vacation, a release, a spiritual rebirth.....this is the perfect healing spot. I keep having a vision of Dianna Amorde taking a group down here.

I passed my working interview and will be back for two weeks in June.! Please think of joining me:-D Sooo worth it!

To Detox or Not?

What is a Toxin? Who Is Toxic?
We all are toxic....We all live in a toxic world. Even with ongoing care, your body accumulates more toxins than it eliminates. A "toxin" can be anything from pesticides, xenoestrogens, food dyes, synthetic drugs and hormones, plastics, air pollution, water pollution, parasites, and chemicals from foods, medicines, surgery, or dental work and even an emotional toxic buildup from stress. When you consider that we are only the 2nd or 3rd generation of humankind to ever live in a world of clogged air, chemicals, and electromagnetic frequencies, to walk on concrete rather than dirt, and to sit all day indoors, it is amazing that we aren't worse off than we are.

So what does our body do with all the built up Toxins?
It stores them in our tissues such as our breasts and ovaries, causing cysts. As well as in our organs such as our Liver, Intestines, and Stomach clogging them. These toxins congest our liver and disrupts our system. They build up and confuse our hormone system, and make it hard for us to release what we do not need.

Signs you may be Toxic:
-Chronic Fatigue
-Headaches
-Fibromyalgia
-Hypoglycemia or Diabetes
-Poor Sleep
-Dark Circles Under your eyes
-Anger/Depression
-Allergies

What can you do About It?
~Use Natural Beauty products, the average woman uses 22 products each morning - how many have toxic dyes and chemicals?
~Eat Meats that have not been injected with fat producing hormones - Organic meats.
~Use essential oils instead of toxic perfumes
~Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables (organic when possible) that contain antioxidants to help detoxify.
~Take weekly Detox baths - for recipes click here
~Limit alcohol, tobacco, and synthetic prescription drugs, even aspirin.
~Detox and Cleanse your body from the inside out, once or twice a year!

Start thinking ahead, the perfect time to Cleanse is after the Holidays!
New Year, New You - 2010

I am teaming up with Dr.Robin Shepperd to co-facilitate my annual detox cleanse class. She will address emotional blocks in the cleansing process, to learn more about how she addresses these blocks join us for a clearing class next month in the office (see below.)

ACHOOOO!!!!

If you live in Austin and other allergen-laden locales, you are certainly familiar with the outward symptoms of airborne allergies. And if you've ever rushed to the bathroom after lunch, you may also be familiar with some food allergies and what they do to you. But did you know that depression can actually be a symptom of an allergy at work in your body? So can muscle aches, joint pain, anger and irritability, even an inability to think clearly.

The list of allergy symptoms goes on and on.The exact cause of allergies isn't known. Western science defines an allergic reaction as the body's defense mechanism against an allergen or foreign substance. The body's immune system takes over in an attempt to protect it. Ironically, your body is making you uncomfortable by fighting what are often benign substances.Allergies to airborne substances, ragweed, mold, dust, mountain juniper, are often indicative of inflammation somewhere in the GI tract. They are typically secondary to a food allergy that is creating the inflammation. Some allergens are actually inherited, but these are few. In fact, allergic reactions to soy, peanuts, dairy products, and wheat appear to be the only genetic allergies.

Changing the pH and calming the inflammation of the bowels is the key to reducing or eliminating allergies. While it isn't an overnight process, the results are worth it-living without sinusitis, itchy watery eyes, headaches, pressure, fatigue, drainage, sinus infections, irritable bowels, spastic colon, diarrhea, and constipation. You may be shocked to discover how many of your seemingly unrelated symptoms are actually allergies.

Other symptoms of allergies include migraines, heartburn, fainting, blood-sugar problems, indigestion, and even mood disorders. Often, depression is actually a result of commonly ingested allergens, and many people find they can reduce or eliminate their need for psychotropic medications by modifying their food intake. In my office we use homeopathic remedies, herbs, acupuncture and adjustments to alleviate allergy symptoms and the cause.

For Immediate Relief of Allergies while you are building your Immune System - Try Natural D-Hist and Texas Allergy

Both are fast acting and help reduce allergy symptoms. Both are sold only by Dr.'s and I do carry both in the office.

Natural D-Hist combines Quercetin, which is a mast cell stabalizers that inhibits compounds that affect the nasal passageways slowing down nasal discharge, with Bromelain which supports the mucousal lining and slows down the mucus viscosity. D-Hist does not leave you with that "hang over" feeling benedryl or other over the counter medications may.....

Texas Allergy Spray is a homeopathic remedy that slowly introduces Texas Allergens into your system such as Ragweed, Mold and Cedar. By introducing small amounts before allergy season hits, your body will build immunity to the allergen when it comes into contact with the real thing. I like to start my patients on this the month or so before the allergen that bothers them is at it's highest. For example I start my Cedar sensitive patients on Texas Allergy in late September for the November Cedar Season.

5 Foods You Should Eat Daily

.::. 5 Foods You Should Eat Daily .::.

1. Spinach
- Spinach is the best source of omega-3s (plant-based), and folate, both help reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke, and osteoporosis.

Incorporate Spinach into your salads, add spinach to scrambled eggs,or drape it over pizza.

2. Blueberries - Blueberries have more antioxidants than any other North American fruit, blueberries help prevent cancer, diabetes, and age-related memory changes (they are nicknamed "brain berry"). Blueberries are rich in fiber and vitamins A and C, they also boost cardiovascular health. Aim for 1 cup fresh blueberries a day, or 1/2 cup frozen or dried. Stick them into yogurt, cereal, or a smoothie. Of course they are great alone!

3. Yogurt - Yogurt containing probiotics will boost your immune system by building the gut lining. One ailment I test for in my office is candid/yeast, when positive I treat with probiotics. Not all yogurts have probiotics, so make sure the label says "live and active cultures." Aim for 1 cup of the calcium and protein-rich yogurt a day. Avoid yogurts with high sugar content, goat yogurt is most preferred.

4. Walnuts - Walnuts are richer in heart-healthy omega-3s than salmon, loaded with more anti-inflammatory polyphenols than red wine, and packing half as much muscle-building protein as chicken. Other nuts combine only one or two of these features, not all three. A serving of walnuts--about 1 ounce, or 7 nuts--is good anytime, but especially as a postworkout recovery snack. Walnuts are great sprinkled over a salad.

5. Tomatoes - Red are the best, because they're packed with more of the antioxidant lycopene, and processed tomatoes are just as potent as fresh ones, because it's easier for the body to absorb the lycopene. Diets rich in lycopene can decrease your risk of bladder, lung, prostate, skin, and stomach cancers, as well as reduce the risk of coronary artery disease. Aim for 22 mg of lycopene a day, which is about eight red cherry tomatoes or a glass of tomato juice.

What is your Body's pH, and why is it important?

In my practice, with each new patient, I go through many different screening tests and use multiple tools and modalities to determine the cause of dysfunction. One of the first tools I use is measuring the body's pH to determine if you are acidic or alkaline. A lot of patients come back amazed at how acidic their pH is and ask "why is this so important?"

If your body is in an acidic state, it is very hard for you to uptake and absorb minerals, herbs and nutrients, making it hard to heal. An acidic pH creates a hostile internal environment for your cells. The more acidic you become, the worse you feel.

Often times just by returning one's body to an alkaline state, I see symptoms such as:
*Fibromyalgia
*Chronic fatigue
*Irritability
*Depression
*Anxiety
and Colon Issues dissipate.

Your pH must be in an alkalize state to achieve vitality, well-being, and healing.

The body's pH can be measured multiple ways, I prefer the first morning urine. I find it most accurate. I have each new patient monitor his or her first morning urine for seven consecutive days and report back to me with an average. There's a scale to measure pH that comes with most test strips.

Acidic = 6.2 and below.
Alkaline = 6.4 and above.

Ideal first morning urine pH is 6.4 - 7.0.

If you suffer from any of the above ailments, check your pH, if you are too acidic we can help.
